ACL Fest 2021 – Spotlight on ACL Fest artists: Channel Tres: the house music producer / singer has the power to make you move – Music

Channel Tres’ sexy and laid back styles on their own raw productions echo Detroit deep house producers / DJs Moodymann and Omar S. for Chiefs Austin. Tres’s voice is somewhat reminiscent of local house music icon JAMON, “Godfather of Austin House,” who was also blessed with a golden tone.
“What’s cool about house music and vocals is you just say cool stuff,” Tres told Output, but the comment belies some of the deeper emotions he shared on the 2020 EP. I can not go out and singles like “Black Moses” and “Sexy Black Timberlake”, which deal with the black experience in many facets.
Born Sheldon Young, Tres’ easy chops in the studio led him to touring gigs with Robyn, Vince Staples and Thundercat. He’s also collaborated with Tinashe, James Blake, and JPEGMAFIA, while Tyler, the Creator chose him as his first officially licensed remixer. All this since 2018, when his first releases were pushed by Yaeji and Shamir’s debut label, Godmode.
“Controller,” the 2018 dance floor burner, is a house tune about Tres’ power to get people moving, one he succeeds in. The proud Compton producer has been a DJ for the Resident Advisor series, as well as for Mixmag and Beatport, although he’s a more reluctant DJ than a live artist. With a rolled-up cap, microphone in hand, singing live, Tres seems particularly at ease.
