Country singers / songwriters to perform at Mars Theater
Three of Nashville’s most talented singer-songwriters will bring a taste of Music City to Springfield when they perform an “Evening in the Round.” The intimate evening of acoustic music, starring Grammy Award-winning Linda Davis and bestselling songwriters Lang Scott and Bill Whyte, will be bursting with success, humor and plenty of home appeal .
“Soirée en Ronde” takes place on Saturday at 7pm at the Théâtre Mars.
This enjoyable evening of music will see each artist take a turn at the microphone, play songs and share the stories behind these hits. Audiences can expect to hear familiar tunes recorded by some of today’s hottest artists, as well as Whyte’s own brand of sometimes twisted but always funny songs.
Labeled “stylist of the song”. Davis’s unique ability to perform a song quickly made her one of Nashville’s hottest session singers. She quickly caught the attention of label executives and landed her first recording contract with CBS / Epic Records.
Early on, Davis gained a legion of friends and fans in the music industry, including superstar Reba McEntire. Their mutual respect for each other’s talent led them to record the duo “Does He Love You”. The recording went on to become a No. 1 hit and won the women several awards, including a Grammy for Best Country Vocal Collaboration.
Over the years, Davis has sold out with Garth Brooks, George Strait, Reba and Kenny Rogers, to name a few. Rogers, a longtime friend and fan, said: “In this business there are people who can sing and there are singers. Linda Davis is absolutely one of the best singers in the business. I challenge you to find someone who has worked before. with her or heard her sing to disagree with this statement. She is the best.”
Scott has long been one of Nashville’s most consistent and sought-after musicians and singers, having toured with McIntyre, Brooks, Rogers, the Statler Brothers and Davis. He wrote hit songs for LeeAnn Rimes, McIntyre and Davis. He was TNN’s first national “You Can Be A Star” champion and signed his own recording deal with mega label MCA Records. He has appeared on “The Tonight Show” with Jay Leno, “The Late Show” with David Letterman, the CMA Awards Show, the ACM Awards Show, “Hee Haw” and many more.
Scott has been married to Davis since 1984. They reside in Nashville with their two children, Rylee and Hillary. Hillary Scott is a third of the Grammy Award winning group Lady A.
Whyte’s unique presentation of funny and twisted songs makes him a favorite wherever he is entertained. “I’m Goin ‘Ugly Early Tonight”, written by Whyte and recorded by Cledus T. Judd, is the perfect climax to her stand-up singing routine, which is packed with fun songs like “Trailer Park Sexy” and “Retired”, recently recorded by Ray Stevens.
Whyte’s other career is that of a morning radio personality. He’s been a morning guy in Cincinnati, Milwaukee, Indianapolis, and Nashville, and has won numerous broadcast awards, including the CMA Award for Best Big Market Personality.
Whyte’s songs have been recorded by Davis, Brady Seals, Kacey Jones and others.
