David Foster opened up about his marriage to Katharine McPhee and their 35-year age difference during a chat with People Monday.
The famous music producer, 72, who married McPhee, 37, in 2019, said he doesn’t think age is the most important factor in a relationship.
“People always refer to Kat and me with the age difference, but I’ve always said that there are so many things that can break a marriage, and the age difference is just that. one,” the Grammy winner said. “There are so many things that can go wrong. We think we have enough together.

The Canadian-born entertainer and McPhee are parents to 11-month-old son Rennie, and Foster said the child’s development freed McPhee to get back to playing.
“Our baby is 11 months old, so she wants to go back to work full time — and it probably won’t be with me,” Foster said. “I’m really grateful to him for just saying, ‘OK, I’m going to grab the baby, I’m going to go out and sing a few songs. It’s really great – it’s a star.
Foster, who is also the father of five grown daughters and seven grandchildren, spoke about raising Rennie.
“It’s great being a dad,” he told the publication. “It’s too cliché to say, ‘Now I have more time’, but it’s true: I have more time. Without any thought to any of my other children, whom I love all equally, and as much as my son.

Asked about Rennie’s aptitude for music with two talented parents, Foster joked that the child “already played Mozart and Bach perfectly”.
Foster added: ‘At 11 months? Obviously, we don’t see any musical talent yet, but who knows?
He talked about performing with McPhee, both live and on their The Kat and Dave Show YouTube clips, as well as potential touring plans.
“We think the two of us in some kind of simplified version — just her and me, a piano and maybe a musician or two — could probably put on a really good 90-minute show,” Foster said.
He said that during live shows, McPhee “gets such thunderous applause” when “she comes out” on stage to perform with him, adding, “I love it.” I love having him with me.
