Finneas: More Than Billie Eilish’s Brother – All About Expert Songwriter and Music Producer
Who is Finneas?
By now I am more than convinced that the world has heard of the dynamic duo which consists of the talented singer Billie Eilish and she songwriter/ older brother producer, Finneas, who is half the brains behind his award winning music. So far, Finneas has co-written and produced Billie’s debut EP “Don’t Smile at Me”, her debut album “When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?” as well as Billie’s upcoming second album, due out July 30, 2021, “Happier Than Ever”. In total, the siblings have won 15 Grammy Awards and I’m over 100% sure they both have several more Grammys on the way in their near future.

The Road to Success – Life Before Fame
What many may not know about Finneas is that he started his creative endeavors as an actor. Born and raised just outside of Los Angeles, his family were also actors and musicians themselves encouraged their children to immerse themselves in the arts. For quite a while, Finneas actually had a rather successful acting career before turning solely to music. His first credit came in 2011 when he booked the role of Spencer in the well-known comedy “Bad Teacher”, starring Cameron Diaz, Justin timberlake, and Jason Segel. A few years later his independent feature film “Life Inside Out” premiered in which he starred alongside his mother Maggie Baird which she also wrote. The film has been screened at over twenty film festivals and won a handful of awards. He then had a two-episode arc on ABC’s’Modern family‘(Ed O’Neill, Ty Burrell, Sofia Vegara), followed by a recurring role in the FOX musical series’ Glee’ (Naya Rivera, Lea Michelle, Jane Lynch), and finally another 2-episode arc on the crime drama ‘Aquarius’.
As he tested the waters in front of the camera, he spent more time writing music. In high school, he formed an alternative pop-rock band called The Slightly’s which won many competitions and even performed at the Vans Warped Tour music festival. Rather savagely, Finneas wrote the famous song we all know and love “Ocean Eyes” for his band, but ultimately gifted it to his younger sister Billie Eilish when she asked her brother to write an original song that he did. ‘she could give her dance teacher. . Eilish spoke about this moment with Vogue teens in 2017: “I have been dancing since I was 8 years old. Last year, one of my teachers asked me if I would write a song or if my brother would write a song to choreograph a dance. I was like, ‘yeah, that’s such a cool thing to do!’ Then my brother came to me with “Ocean Eyes”, which he had originally written for his band.

He told me he thought it would sound really good in my voice. He taught me the song and we sang it together with his guitar and I loved it, it stuck in my head for weeks. We kind of decided that was the song we were going to use for the dance. After recording the song, the siblings uploaded it to SoundCloud, the world’s largest open audio platform, so that her teacher could easily access it, and overnight the song went viral. Eilish continued, “But overnight a ton of people started hearing it and sharing it. Hillydilly, a music discovery site, found it and posted it and it became more and more. bigger. It was really surreal. Then Danny Ruckasin, who is now my manager, contacted my brother and said, “Man, it’s gonna get huge and I think you’re gonna need some help in the process. road. I want to help you guys. ” After ‘Ocean Eyes’ was released for the whole world to hear, Finneas’ career was on track.
Famous collaborations and his solo career
While Finneas certainly rose to fame alongside his sister, he’s since gone on his own to create his own music and collaborate with some of the music industry’s biggest artists. The artist released his debut EP titled “Blood Harmony” in 2019. Last June he also let his fans know on Twitter that his debut album had a name, a release date and plans for a tour that we did. still look forward to more details. .
Somehow, in the midst of writing, recording and producing his own music, he can be found in the studio with singers such as Selena Gomez, Tove Lo and Halsey, to name a few. Finneas was to thank for Gomez’s success on his 2019 single record “Lose You to Love Me”, which he produced and to which he added these significant final touches. This single is the one that became her first number one song on the Billboard Hot 100 table.

As I’m sure you guessed, Finneas was of course behind the production of this song and Saxe spoke to Front Row Live about how the song turned out: “He heard the song, the original demo, which was only the piano and our voices. There was something about the piano voice that sounded really powerful to everyone. And I think Finneas had a reaction to that and liked it enough that he wanted to accentuate what he already liked about it. And I loved that that was the approach he took.
