THE POWER OF THE PEN. Artist Brigitte Riley is a master of powerful abstract paintings, but she is also a superb writeras a just published New York Times the profile makes it clear. The article cites an essay written by Riley in 1965 for ART news (the backstory is convoluted, but the piece includes this delicious phrase: “an explosion of commercialism, bluster and hysterical sensationalism”). He also quotes the one she wrote about the works of Constable and Delacroix which she included in her current show at Yale British Art Center.
