RAPID CITY, SD (KEVN) – Week 11 of the Skyline Summer Music Series saw the talents of South Dakota-based singer and songwriter Chris Huisenga.
Chris offers a variety of sound, ranging from “rhythmic blues rock” to “indie acoustics,” according to his Spotify page, but the Good Morning Black Hills music scene heard more of the latter during his solo performance on August 13.
Chris is a self-taught guitarist. In an interview he gave on the day of his performance, he said his mother tried to teach him, but a young Huisenga decided a guitar teacher wasn’t for him after a session.
In his latest single, “We Are,” Huisenga reflects on our contemporary melodrama – he highlighted the COVID-19 pandemic and the divisive political climate of recent years – and the isolation that followed.
“It’s easy to get lonely, so we wanted to write a song that people kind of reminded them that they have someone for them, whether it’s musicians like us or family,” said Huisenga.
2021 has had its own ups and downs, but Chris described the ups as “meteoric” and that he was delighted to see audiences thirsty for live performances.
