New record label opens in Richmond to help bridge the gap between local artists and major markets
RICHMOND, Virginia (WRIC) – A new record company in Richmond is trying to bridge the gap between local artists and major markets.
Mermaid Vibes Records opened in November 2020.
Siren Vibes Records CEO Desiree “Des” Newman and COO Mish Davis launched the label to bring artists from Virginia, DC and Maryland to the big stage.
So far, they have signed three promising artists on their label.
“Right now we’re working with our artists and releasing their EPs,” Newman said. “We are working to get them signed to major labels. We are that bridge between Richmond, which is a secondary music market, and a primary market. We use our connections.
Davis said Richmond has a plethora of talent to showcase to a wider audience.
“The world needs to hear it,” she said. “They need to hear it.”
The label currently has artists such as Jehmila of Northern Virginia, Montro Hefner of Richmond and Crimson Phoenixx.
They are looking for more artists locally to add to their label.
“We need more artists from Virginia. Especially the Richmond artists, ”Newman said. “We are working with anyone in the region to push Richmond outside of Richmond around the world.”
The duo are confident in their ability to shake things up and grow as big as the majors.
“Keep an eye on us. Sooner or later you will hear from us. We are Siren Vibes Records. Different sound everywhere. You hear sirens everywhere, ”they said. “We’re going to infiltrate every state and every city with the music of Richmond. The opportunity awaits no one and we go out and grab it every day.
