STONINGTON – As part of its community and learning program, Opera House Arts is pleased to offer a five-week songwriting workshop taught by Caroline Cotter, on Tuesday evenings, August 2-30 from 6 p.m. 8 p.m. at Stonington Opera House. Join singer-songwriter Caroline Cotter on a songwriting journey that explores the power of songs and offers different approaches to creating a song that truly speaks to your ideas and emotions. Suitable for ages 16 and up. To learn more and register, visit operahousearts.org. Mandatory face masks.

Ever wanted to write an original song, but didn’t know where to start? Or maybe you’ve been writing songs for years and would like a different perspective. Wherever you are in your musical journey, you are welcome to this workshop. Caroline Cotter shares her own process for finding inspiration and creating songs that have the power to move you and others. There will be opportunities for song sharing, group commentary, co-writing, and lots of experimentation in a supportive and safe environment. There will be a culminating showcase and reception on Saturday, September 10 from 7-9 p.m. at the Stonington Opera House.

With a captivating soprano voice and award-winning songwriting, Caroline Cotter’s songs take listeners around the world and into the depths of the human heart. Since releasing her debut album, “Dreaming as I Do,” which reached No. 5 on the Folk DJ charts in 2015, Caroline has performed over 800 shows in 45 states and 13 countries. Currently on tour in support of their second major release, “Home on the River”, No Depression calls it “sweet and sweet, and downright refreshing…lifting spirits with one song, calming them with another”. Icon Magazine writes, “His well-constructed songs recall the early work of Mary Chapin Carpenter.” “Today’s folk scene has a new champion, one who encapsulates the sweetness, serenity and sophistication that has always made the genre so moving in such a timeless way. In this regard, “Home on the River” is an absolutely essential record. (Country Standard Time)
