Folk music has an exciting history to uphold. While many of us walk parallel with the evolution of the music industry, the genre is still trying to figure out where it’s going. One of the ways the folk music industry tries to stay sustainable is to thrive on adapting it to mainstream audiences by popularizing it with more mainstream artists. These attempts to create hybrids using contemporary sounds and folk music promise not just great music, but essentially the merging of two genres into one. This is what the folk music industry really aspires to.

Victor Hugo Hernandez Bitter, who goes by the stage name Vicfamous and is a singer-songwriter from Venezuela, is an example of the fusion of two different genres. It produces a fusion of folk and pop music that is unique and can combine various musical genres, making it harder to categorize. Vicfamous has released songs such as “Animal Print” and “Ardiendo with great success on YouTube, Spotify and iTunes. Vicfamous has made a name for himself by writing, recording and releasing songs with his signature sound. In addition, he experiments a lot with mixing different styles of music to create a unique mix all its own.

The dilemma facing the music industry right now is how to stay sustainable. Although there are many artists who try new and innovative ways to make money, there are still others who stick to the conventional structure of music. These industries focus more on consistently delivering hit after hit. The Vicfamous label is part of Los Chamillos and is an example of such a label where an artist can create a wide variety of songs in a short time.

The fusion of folk and pop is essential to the survival of folk music. Latin folk music struggles to stay relevant in modern times. This trend is what will revolutionize this genre for this generation and beyond. The future for folk music doesn’t look bleak, but as long as it adapts and continues to thrive, it can survive any competition that comes its way.

Vicfamous is releasing a song titled “Háblame Claro” on June 20! He will publish and distribute the music through the Los Chamillos label, the label of his friend Jairo Escobar. The label plans to expand and create more content soon.

Every year, the folk music industry struggles to maintain its relevance. Ever-changing trends and the urge for creativity can be seen as good for the genre, but it also means the music industry has to work even harder to stay in business. The main way they have been able to do this is to localize traditional materials to meet modern tastes. This is what Los Chamillos Records has been doing since its inception in 2022.
