Ticketmaster Music Week Awards winners chart a path beyond the pandemic | Live
Michelle Plant, vice president of marketing for Ticketmaster UK, said music week that the music industry can rely on the company as the live business emerges from the Covid pandemic.
Ticketmaster UK emerged victorious in the Ticketing Company category, which returned to the Music Week Awards for the first time since 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic. The company held off competition from Ents24, Event Genius, Eventim, Skiddle and Twickets.
See Tickets won the trophy two years ago, but this year Ticketmaster reigned supreme for the first time since 2017. Plant gave an impassioned speech after accepting the award, calling the win a “fantastic surprise” and saying “We are all thrilled to finally be back to live music after almost two and a half years”.
Backstage, surrounded by a cheering crew, Plant told Music Week that Ticketmaster has been able to support its artists and festival patrons, alongside the rest of the industry, during the pandemic.
“We always had events on sale throughout,” Plant said. “We saw from all the incoming traffic to our site that everyone was eager to get back to live shows. We’ve continued to engage with our fans all the time and let them know about all the big events they can come see, not just this year, but also next year.
In 2021, Ticketmaster helped over half a million people gain access to a range of festivals including Creamfields and Wilderness, and rolled out fully digital ticketing for Reading & Leeds. The company also launched Smart Help, a new customer support service.
Plant said the industry can “trust” Ticketmaster and the relationships its staff have across the company.
“We’re really good at what we do, we have fantastic customers and great people working with us every day across the country,” she said. “We’re really excited that everyone loves live entertainment and everyone loves Ticketmaster.”
Finally, Plant paid tribute to his team.
“It’s not just about our customers, the team makes it possible, they make it worth coming to work every day,” Plant said.
After Ticketmaster won this category in 2017, Eventim won the crown in 2018 and Twickets took it in 2019.
Earlier this year, Ticketmaster announced a live music discovery partnership with Snapchat. The company has also opened offices in South Africa.
